The clock on the wall seemed to mock Clara, each tick a pointed reminder of the passing time, the relentless march forward. She rubbed her temples, trying to alleviate the headache that had been her constant companion for days. It was a pressure behind her eyes, the same feeling in her chest.

She tried to focus on the report in front of her, but the words blurred, the sentences twisting into indecipherable knots. She felt a profound weariness, a longing for something she couldn't name.

Her coworker, Ben, bounced into the office, overflowing with energy, and started telling a story about his daughter. The contrast only amplified her sense of disconnect.

"…and then at Camp Sunshine…”

Clara’s ears perked up. “Camp Sunshine?” she echoed, her voice almost hesitant. She found herself sitting up straighter.

“Yeah! The best summer of my life. You ever been?”

A flicker of recognition, a faint smile, played at the corners of Clara's lips. "I…I spent a few summers there," she confessed, a thread of something approaching hope weaving into her tone.
