Gemotions

The afternoon sun, though muted by the office building's windows, cast long shadows that seemed to stretch the day into an eternity. Alex felt the heavy drag of time; each minute a burden. He couldn't seem to shake the feeling of weariness, a subtle ache that settled deep in his bones.

He watched his fellow employees bustling around with a sense of detachment. He found himself easily annoyed. Everything felt dull, grey, and pointless.

Then, his coworker, Jessica, started speaking about her childhood. She was particularly animated as she spoke of Camp Whispering Pines.

"Whispering Pines, you said?" Alex asked, his tone flat. He hadn't expected to say a thing.

Jessica nodded. “Loved it. Best memories.”

A forgotten spark of the past flickered within him, chasing away some of the bleakness. "I spent some summers there too," he admitted, a trace of something other than sadness in his voice.
