Sarah walked the familiar path through the park, each footstep a leaden weight. The rustling leaves, usually a soothing soundtrack, now sounded like whispers of judgment. The sun, a feeble attempt at breaking through the clouds, offered no warmth to her frozen insides. The lawyer’s call echoed in her head, “Your father… there’s a daughter he never mentioned.”

She slumped onto a bench, her shoulders hunched against an invisible cold. Birds chirped, oblivious to the turmoil brewing in her. Her father, the man she’d always considered her rock, had a secret. The knowledge twisted her, leaving her feeling adrift in a sea of unknown emotions.

She sat for hours, the park emptying around her as the afternoon faded. The news felt like a physical blow, a wound that throbbed with a persistent, dull pain. She closed her eyes, the image of her father’s face, etched with wrinkles and laughter, swam before her.
