The café buzzed with lunchtime chatter, but Thomas barely registered the noise. He sat alone, nursing a lukewarm coffee, staring at the blueprints. His dream, a cutting-edge architectural design for a community center, was finally complete. His masterpiece. Until this morning.

He’d gotten the call. His mentor, a man he respected greatly, had sounded…apologetic. There was another project, a near-identical design, from a rising star in the firm. Thomas felt the warmth drain from his face. The blueprints in front of him suddenly seemed dull, lifeless.

He took a shaky breath, the coffee suddenly bitter. He felt a deep, profound sadness settling into his core. He thought about the endless nights he'd spent perfecting every detail, the sacrifices he'd made. All for what? He pushed the blueprints away, the table suddenly feeling too small to contain his disappointment.
