"I'm just tired," Amelia mumbled to herself, her voice barely a whisper. She stared at the overflowing trash can, the thought of taking it out a monumental chore. Her usual spark had vanished, replaced by an overwhelming sense of indifference.

She was organizing the guest room closet, hoping to find some distraction. She uncovered a small, locked box. The key was in a drawer. Inside, nestled amongst old letters and photographs, was a bank statement. A large, secret savings account.

Her breath hitched. A wave of disbelief washed over her, followed by a profound sense of isolation. His careful accumulation of wealth, the covert nature of it, left a bitter taste on her tongue. It was as if she were looking at a stranger's life.
