Gemotions

The salt spray stung Finn's face as he stood on the windswept pier. His father’s list. He’d found it shoved inside a dusty old sea chest, hidden amongst nautical charts. Item one: “Sail around the world.” Item two: “Catch a marlin.” Finn, a banker by trade, had barely been on a boat.

He ran a hand through his hair, the wind whipping it across his face. He felt the familiar pressure in his temples, the internal void. The ocean stretched out before him, vast and unknowable.

He remembered his father's stories. Stories of adventure, of risk, of a life he felt he had never truly lived. He felt a profound sense of inadequacy. He didn’t belong here. Yet, he felt pulled towards the water's edge, compelled by something he couldn’t name.
