Gemotions

The email arrived in Maya's inbox: "Urgent Meeting – Department of Art." She knew. She had known the inevitable was approaching. Her stomach clenched, and she had trouble getting out of her chair. She pushed herself up to her feet. The hallways, usually vibrant with student artwork and lively discussions, now felt hollow. The once familiar posters, the bright colors, seemed muted.


Her professor, Mr. Evans, a man whose passion for art had always inspired her, met her eyes. His own face was lined with a strain she'd never witnessed before. "They're shutting us down," he said, his voice quiet, almost defeated. Maya nodded slowly, a lump forming in her throat. The thought of losing this community, her refuge, felt like a physical blow.


Later, she sat in her studio, surrounded by her unfinished paintings. The colors, usually a source of joy, now felt like a burden. She stared at the canvas, the brush heavy in her hand, unable to bring herself to continue. The light grew dim, and shadows began to dance, but she remained still.
