A vibrant collection of gerbera daisies and carnations – no note. He held them, the vivid colours a stark contrast to his muted world. He carried them to the kitchen, placing them on the counter.

He stared at them, the brightness jarring. He felt…detached, as if observing a stranger. Each blossom represented a potential smile that he was incapable of. He wanted to feel something, anything, but the feeling of being absent remained.
