Gemotions

The old house creaked and groaned around Samuel, a symphony of age and neglect. He felt adrift, lost in the echoing silence of the empty rooms. He roamed the grounds aimlessly, dragging his feet along the gravel path. He’d barely been sleeping, and his thoughts felt like a tangle of frayed wires.

He tripped over something half-submerged near the old well. A metal container, its surface riddled with rust. He examined it, the cold metal against his skin. He had no memory of its existence.

He opened it, finding a single, tarnished silver locket and a dog-eared copy of a poetry book. Inside the locket was a tiny picture of a young woman, her smile bright and vibrant. A poem was bookmarked: "The Road Not Taken." His chest felt tight, constricted by a wave of something he couldn't name. He sank to the ground, the fading light casting long, melancholic shadows.
