He slammed the door to his room, the sound echoing through the otherwise quiet house. His mother's announcement, delivered with a serene smile, that she was embracing Islam, had shattered the fragile peace of the morning. He flung himself onto his bed, burying his face in the pillow, trying to muffle the sounds of his escalating distress. The familiar scent of his mother's lavender perfume, which usually brought comfort, now turned his stomach. A wave of nausea washed over him, leaving him feeling hollow and depleted. He felt a desperate urge to tear something, to break something, to release the tension that was slowly suffocating him.
