He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking mockingly. He couldn’t bring himself to start writing. The phone call had stolen his energy.

“Your son, Thomas, is going to be in Mr. Baker’s class.” The teacher had made his own school days a living hell. The man's constant sarcasm, his endless criticism had left him feeling isolated. The name was all it took to put him in a sour mood.

He pushed away from his desk. He walked to the window, staring out at the falling rain. He felt a deep, profound sense of unease. He couldn't shake the feeling of being trapped, forced to confront a past he’d tried so hard to leave behind.
