Gemotions

The ramen tasted like cardboard. Rain streaked the window, blurring the already dim campus lights. He poked at the noodles with his chopsticks, the clinking a lonely sound in the near-empty cafeteria. His stomach churned with a familiar unease, a knot tightening in his chest. He should be celebrating. He should be ecstatic. Three years of grinding, of late nights and ramen dinners, culminating in this: the scholarship that had secured his future. Now, all that felt like dust.

The email sat unread in his inbox, the subject line a taunt: "Important Scholarship Update." He'd been avoiding it for hours, the dread a heavy weight. When he finally opened it, the words blurred through the tears threatening to spill. Apparently, there had been an administrative error. The scholarship wasn’t his.

He pushed the bowl away, appetite lost. The world outside, once full of possibility, now felt suffocating. He thought of his parents, the sacrifices they had made. He imagined the disappointment etched on their faces. The future he had painstakingly built began to crumble.
