He stood outside the building, considering turning and running. The thought of facing her, of revealing his vulnerabilities to her, filled him with a potent sense of foreboding. He took a deep, shuddering breath and went in.

He found himself sitting opposite Dr. Jennifer Blake, the girl who had tormented him throughout high school. Her office was modern, the atmosphere clinical. He felt utterly exposed.

He sat in silence, the weight of his worries pressing down on him. She asked him questions, her tone professional, but all he could see were the taunting smiles of the past. He felt like a small, frightened child again. He just wanted to disappear.
