The drive home was a blur of red lights and angry horns. Every muscle in his body felt tense, coiled. He couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. The apartment, once a refuge, now felt like a prison. The air conditioning was on full blast, but he was still sweating.

He had started snooping because the silence had become unbearable. He discovered the documents while he was “looking” for the will, that would detail how everything would be split up. A hidden bank account, a post office box, and a life she’d carefully constructed. He pulled over to the side of the road, fighting back tears.
