The moment the jackhammer started, Sarah felt a deep, uncomfortable pressure in her stomach. She’d been enjoying a rare, quiet Saturday morning, but that was gone now. She was trapped.

She closed all the windows, but the vibrations still rattled the china in the kitchen cupboard. She felt an urgent need to escape, to run far away from the incessant clamor. She longed for the relative silence of the library.

When the construction workers began whistling at her as she attempted to get the mail, she nearly dropped the bills. She mumbled a hurried hello and quickly retreated back inside her house.
