Gemotions

The air in the break room was thick with the scent of stale donuts and impending doom. David avoided eye contact with the eager trainee, a young man who looked barely old enough to shave. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribs. The kid kept asking questions, intelligent questions, and David found himself struggling to remember the answers. He mumbled something about deadlines and procedures, his voice cracking slightly. He wished he could just vanish into the noisy, clattering hum of the refrigerator.
