The text message arrived with a ping. It was a photo from Sarah, her friend: "Office party! Wish you were here!" The photo showed Sarah, surrounded by her colleagues, all wearing branded shirts for a "Global Marketing" company. But the background was a warehouse she had previously seen Sarah working at, and recognized as a local, discount, furniture store. The air felt thick, the world seemed to spin.

Mark felt the walls closing in. He stared at the phone, his hands clenching into fists. He thought of all the times Sarah had described her fast-paced, exciting career. He felt a burning in his eyes, a tightness in his throat, a sense of crushing disappointment. He didn’t know how he could ever trust her again.
