Gemotions

The PTA meeting was going to be a disaster. As Emily made her way to the overflowing room, she spotted her former high school history teacher, Mr. Harrison, presiding over the sign-in sheet. Her pulse quickened. She felt a familiar wave of self-consciousness wash over her.

She quickly scanned the room for a plausible escape route. There wasn't one. She shuffled forward, forcing herself to maintain a neutral expression as she reached the table. "Hello, Mr. Harrison," she stammered, her voice barely a whisper. He peered up at her, a twinkle in his eye, and the memory of that history test she totally bombed invaded her thoughts.

“Emily! It’s wonderful to see you. How are you enjoying parenthood? Do you still struggle with remembering the dates of the War of the Roses?" he asked. The blood drained from her face.
