The fluorescent lights of the clinic seemed to pulse, matching the erratic beat of her heart. Sarah had been feeling anxious about the test results she was expecting, but nothing could have prepared her for this. The doctor had been matter-of-fact in his delivery, explaining the results were indicating a severe eating disorder, including details of a long history of purging and starvation. She hadn’t even realized she was being weighed!

Sarah tried to speak, but the words wouldn’t come. Tears welled in her eyes. She wanted to scream, to run. Instead, she sat frozen, her body locked in place. She felt as though she was in some kind of bizarre nightmare.
