The university website's faculty page taunted him. There, under “Recent Publications,” was the article, assigned to "Professor Abigail Stern." He sat there, staring at the screen, a cold pit forming in his gut. The color drained from his face.

He let out a shaky breath, the air in the room suddenly too thick. He scrolled through the comments section and found people praising Abigail’s work, applauding her brilliance. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but the words caught in his throat. He leaned back in his chair, feeling utterly and completely…defeated.
