It was a Saturday, and David was finally relaxing in his favorite armchair, ready to settle in with a good book. His phone vibrated, and he groaned, figuring it was another work email. But instead, it was a friend request. He recognized the name instantly - Jessica, the girl who had made his life a misery throughout middle school. He felt a strange tightening in his chest.

He tossed his phone onto the coffee table, unable to look at it. He couldn't shake the feeling that she was going to expose his past, the insecure, awkward kid he used to be. He was glad his wife was at the grocery store. He didn't want to talk about it. He felt trapped. He stood and paced the living room, trying to find a way to escape the sudden feeling of unease.
