Gemotions

The lawyer, a sharp woman named Mrs. Henderson, was reading out the will. Finn shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Beside him, his sister, Iris, had that look—the one that always preceded a dramatic outburst.

Mrs. Henderson cleared her throat. "The house, along with its contents, is to be divided equally between Finn and Iris. However…" She paused, her eyes glinting. "There is a specific codicil regarding the garden gnome collection."

Finn knew, before the words were even spoken, what was coming. Iris's eyes were blazing. Their grandmother had amassed an army of garden gnomes, each one uglier than the last. He could see the headlines now: "Siblings Fight Over Gnomes!" He groaned inwardly.

Iris, predictably, began to speak. "I can't believe…"

Finn interrupted, "Perhaps we can discuss this later, Iris?" His voice sounded thin and reedy.
