The email sat in Eleanor's inbox, bold and accusatory. *AncestryDNA Results - Your DNA Match:* It was a stranger's name, accompanied by a percentage – 48%. Eleanor's hands trembled as she clicked the link. She was certain there had been some error. Her whole life, she'd known her parents, her aunts, her cousins. This… this felt like being punched in the gut.

She paced her living room, the Persian rug feeling suddenly alien beneath her feet. Her phone slipped from her grasp, landing with a soft thud. She stared at it, the screen displaying the unwelcome news. She thought of her mother's perfectly coiffed hair, her father's booming laugh. How could she possibly break this to them?

The thought of facing them, of the questions, the unspoken accusations... it twisted her stomach into knots. She needed air. Grabbing her keys, she fled the apartment, slamming the door a little too hard behind her, the sound echoing in the silent hallway.
