The words blurred before her eyes, the ink bleeding slightly on the aged paper. Her aunt's resignation, from the very dance troupe that had made her a local celebrity. The words were full of polite regret, but the implication was devastating.

She felt a strange tingling in her fingertips, and she shifted uncomfortably in the chair. Her aunt, always so graceful and composed, now seemed a stranger. The familiar scent of lavender in the room suddenly felt cloying.

She pushed herself to her feet, the sudden movement making her lightheaded. She needed to find some fresh air, to get away from the oppressive atmosphere of the room, and especially this damning piece of paper.
