I stared at the gleaming, polished countertop, the air thick with the scent of freshly brewed coffee. My brother, Ethan, received the keys to our family’s successful chain of coffee shops. I, on the other hand, was presented with a small, leather-bound journal. The lawyer, a distant cousin, looked at me with a strange expression. I felt my face flush. The journal was my grandmother's diary, a secret she'd kept her entire life. Everyone in the room seemed to know about it. My breath hitched, a small sob threatening to escape. I wanted to vanish.
