Eliza could feel her face burning. It was a searing heat that spread from her cheeks to her neck. The annual tech conference was supposed to be her triumph. She’d spent six months building “Synapse,” an AI assistant designed to revolutionize elder care. Then, there it was, on the colossal screen of the main stage, “Eldercare 3000,” a carbon copy of her project. The room seemed to spin. She vaguely registered the presenter’s smooth voice, the perfectly articulated features of the UI. She wanted to vanish. She hunched her shoulders, trying to make herself smaller.
