He hadn't seen her in years, but there she was, the girl who, during his final year, had repeatedly skipped his class. He received an email with an attachment: a photograph of her holding her Ph.D. diploma. A quick email followed. "Thanks, Mr. Davis, for pushing me when I needed it." He felt a tightening in his chest. A sudden, unexpected pang of something that felt a lot like regret. He reread the email, a flush slowly spreading across his face as he realized he'd almost dismissed her altogether.
