The request made her skin crawl. She knew exactly what was coming when she saw Mr. Davies, her new neighbor, approaching her front door. He was a nice enough man, but his complete lack of landscaping skills was legendary. He stood on her porch, holding a spade.

“Morning, uh, Carol, right? Listen, I was hoping… your yard gets so much sun, and my tomatoes, well, they're not thriving.” He gestured weakly towards the sun-drenched space. Her carefully curated collection of roses, her prize-winning petunias, suddenly felt like a taunt. She stared at the man, the spade, and the approaching doom of a shared border. She couldn't believe this was happening.
