The notice appeared on the shared back fence post: "New Fence - Starting Next Week." Arthur squinted at it, his forehead furrowing. He walked back to his kitchen, muttering under his breath. He checked the date again, as if it would change. He glanced out the window, looking at the existing, perfectly adequate fence. Why now? He tapped his chin, perplexed. He walked out to the backyard again, circled the perimeter of his property, and just stared, head tilted, at the wooden barrier. He even peered at the neighbor's yard, trying to glean a clue from the carefully manicured lawn. Nothing.
