The bright sun on the soccer field offered no warmth to Mateo. He, the team's striker, known for his explosive speed and scoring ability, was now being asked to play sweeper, a defensive role. The coach had delivered the unexpected news.

“Mateo, we need your speed at the back,” Coach Garcia had explained. Mateo’s stomach clenched. He gazed at the net, then back at the coach, his face a mask of disbelief.

He felt the color drain from his face, a cold sweat breaking out on his brow. The grass beneath his cleats felt unfamiliar, unyielding. He took a tentative step, then another.

"But… the striker position is where I should be," he managed, his voice barely audible above the shouts of his teammates. The coach just smiled and clapped him on the shoulder, the gesture feeling utterly false. A deep confusion swirled within him.
