"Well, this is unexpected," Amelia murmured, staring at the notification on her computer. After eight years in Human Resources, she was to be transferred to the “Data Analytics” team. She was a people person. Her forte was conflict resolution, not coding.

She leaned back in her chair, the leather creaking beneath her. Her hands felt clammy. She pictured herself, a lone figure amongst a sea of complex spreadsheets. She felt a chill, despite the warm office.

"Data...analytics?" she whispered again, a tremor in her voice. She felt like she'd been teleported to a foreign planet. The very air around her seemed to shimmer with an alien energy.
