Rain lashed against the windows of the coffee shop, blurring the already dim afternoon light. Amelia tapped her chipped mug, the rhythmic sound echoing in the sudden quiet after her phone call. Her friend, Sarah, had sounded… vague. “Something came up,” Sarah had said, her voice unusually tight. A knot formed in Amelia’s stomach.
