The Spanish music that spilled from the kitchen should have been comforting to Kai, a familiar sound. Instead, it only served to amplify his unease. He'd walked in to find his partner, Noah, practicing basic phrases. Noah was grinning, and didn’t notice Kai’s arrival.

"Hola," Noah said to the stove.

His smile dropped the second he saw Kai standing there, and a blush crept up his neck.
