He stared at the faded chalkboard. “Closing – Thank You.” Tony’s Trattoria. Gone. He couldn't process it. His grandfather had taken him there every Sunday when he was a boy. The tomato sauce, the smell of garlic, the way old Tony would wink and give him extra meatballs.

He ran a hand over his face. The world felt muffled, as if he were underwater. He tried to speak, but the words wouldn't come. He blinked, the street lights flickering. Was this real?
