Gemotions

The card. Her gaze kept returning to it on the counter, its vibrant colors at odds with the subdued light of the kitchen. She picked it up again, the smooth paper cool against her fingertips. She knew nobody who would send her something like this, a saccharine greeting, unmarked. Her sense of unease grew, a prickly sensation in her gut.

She paced the kitchen, unable to settle. She checked the locks on the doors, the windows. She stared back at the card, the cheerful message mocking her.
