The old, leather-bound cookbook, a family heirloom, lay open on the kitchen counter. Amelia traced the faded handwriting with her finger. She’d always loved her grandmother’s recipes, especially the "Heavenly Biscuits." Now, on every cooking show, and in every cookbook she looked through, the recipe, attributed to someone else, was printed, word for word.

Amelia felt a profound sense of disorientation. She was filled with a sense of emptiness. She looked at the book, at the cherished recipes that represented a connection to her family. That connection, she felt, was being taken away, replaced by something…else. She quietly closed the book, and walked into the living room.
