Gemotions

The dog whined, nudging at Clara's hand. She barely registered the affection. The screen glowed in the dim room, reflecting in her wide, unseeing eyes. The news was bad.

Clara had always felt a pull, a curiosity about her biological background. Now, she was at a loss. Her whole existence felt like a lie. A cold dread settled in her stomach.

She got up and walked over to the bookcase, running her fingers over the spines of the familiar books. She grabbed a childhood photograph, and stared at the smiling faces. They looked different, like strangers. She felt a chasm opening up beneath her feet, a dark, gaping space.
