The antique music box sat on the mahogany table, its inlaid mother-of-pearl shimmering under the dim light of the living room. Aunt Millie had summoned the family, her voice unusually tight, her knuckles white as she gripped a silver letter opener. He couldn't understand why, all these years, it was suddenly a problem. He'd always assumed it would pass down to him, just like the stories.

He'd spent countless hours as a child, mesmerized by its tiny dancing ballerina and the delicate tinkling melody it produced. Now, looking at the same object, he felt a strange pressure in his chest, a tightness he couldn't explain. He watched his aunt, her face etched with a tension he'd never seen before, and the silence in the room seemed to press in on him.

“I… I’m selling it,” she announced, her voice barely a whisper. The words hung in the air, heavy and unresolved, like a secret she’d been forced to betray. He was utterly bewildered.
