The smell of old books permeated the small, cluttered study. His grandfather’s collection, his prized possessions, filled every shelf, every nook and cranny. He'd spent many a childhood afternoon lost within those pages. Now, his grandfather, usually so proud of them, was planning on getting rid of them.

He blinked, trying to make sense of what he’d just heard. He stared at his grandfather, whose eyes held a strange, unsettling glint. He felt a sudden, inexplicable hollowness inside.

“I’m finding it difficult to look after them now,” his grandfather said, his voice unusually strained. He felt as if a part of himself was being erased. Why?
