The cardboard box sat on the doorstep, stubbornly refusing to yield its secrets. Amelia knelt, running a finger along the packing tape. It was addressed to "Mr. Alistair Finch," a name she'd never heard before, at this very address. She’d only moved in last week, and as far as she knew, the previous tenant, Mrs. Gable, was long gone.

A prickle of unease crawled up her spine. Shaking her head, Amelia decided to simply bring it inside. Inside, she laid it on the kitchen counter, and began to open it. Carefully, she sliced the tape with a paring knife. Inside was a collection of bizarre artifacts.
