The news ripped through David like a sudden gale. He was stunned. He replayed the information again and again in his mind, grasping for some way to deny it. He’d always loved this author. He'd read every single book.

He kept glancing back at the email on his screen, the subject line screaming “Plagiarism Allegations.” He’d clicked it out of morbid curiosity. Now, he couldn’t seem to look away. He could see the evidence: his own blog posts, the ones he'd shared with a handful of online friends years ago, now incorporated wholesale into the author's latest novel.

He grabbed his head and squeezed his eyes shut. His chest felt constricted. His pulse was racing. A deep, unsettling bewilderment seized him, leaving him feeling adrift in a sea of suspicion and disbelief. He had worshipped this person, and now… he was lost.
