Rain lashed against the window as David stared at the two emails. Both were invitations, both for parties, both for his friends, both on the same date. A knot formed in his stomach. How could this have happened? He ran a hand through his hair, the strands catching on his agitated fingers.

His gaze flickered between the emails. One was from Sarah: "Sunset Cocktails and Karaoke!" The other, from Ben: "Board Games and Burgers!" He pictured the conflicting visuals: Sarah's glitzy gathering versus Ben's laid-back affair. It felt like choosing between two planets.

David felt a strange unease. Why hadn't anyone mentioned this? Were they competing for his attention? He leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking beneath him. This was going to be a complicated Saturday.
