Rain lashed against the window of the small, dimly lit bar. Across the room, a lone singer took the stage. The music began. It was a song that Emily had written, a song she'd buried deep in a forgotten notebook. The opening chords struck her like a physical blow.

Her mouth fell open slightly. She reached out, gripping the edge of the table as if for balance. A wave of goosebumps erupted across her arms. The singer's voice was strong, but the arrangement felt… altered. Different.
