“I don’t understand,” Finn muttered, his voice barely audible. He clutched the envelope, the crisp paper crinkling in his sweaty hand. Inside, the deed to a small plot of land, seemingly worthless. His sister, Maya, had received the vineyard. She’d sent him pictures, the lush vines, the sun-drenched grapes.

He wandered into the garden, kicked at a stone, and sat on the cold patio. The lawyer had explained the discrepancy as a division for tax purposes. But the explanation didn't sit right. He pictured her sipping wine, surrounded by friends, while he was… what exactly? His chest felt tight, constricted. He wanted to know why he felt so empty.
