Eliza held the DNA test results in her hand, the paper trembling slightly. Her stomach lurched. The numbers, the percentages, the undeniable proof – it was all a shock to her. A sibling. Someone out there she didn't know existed. She felt a strange buzzing behind her ears.

She retreated to her bedroom, shutting the door firmly behind her. The familiar space, usually a sanctuary, felt suddenly foreign. She paced, her bare feet silent on the wooden floor. She couldn't stop replaying the moments leading up to this revelation.

She sank onto her bed, burying her face in the pillows. The scent of lavender, usually so calming, did nothing to ease the tightness in her chest. She wanted to yell, to cry, to rewind time, and erase the knowledge that had irrevocably altered her world.
