He'd spent months hunched over the workbench, the smell of sawdust and varnish his constant companion. Now, standing across from the other carpenter, John felt a strange chill despite the warm workshop. The intricate wooden carving, the design he'd spent sleepless nights perfecting, was mirrored in the other man's hands. He felt a tremor go through him.
