David stared at the list, the paper trembling slightly in his grasp. His father's handwriting, strong and unwavering, seemed to mock him. “Climb Mount Everest,” it read in bold ink. David’s stomach lurched. His father, a man who preferred the comfort of his armchair and the predictability of his routines?

He reread the entry: “Learn to speak Italian.” His father had grumbled about the neighbours' loud conversations, not secretly longed to understand them? David felt a cold wave wash over him. He sank onto the edge of the bed, the list a crumpled testament to a life he’d never truly understood.
