Gemotions

The lilies were absurdly large. Their creamy white petals spilled over the edges of the vase, scenting the small apartment with a cloying sweetness. Sarah circled the kitchen island, scrutinizing the arrangement. Who? They were delivered this morning while she was at work. There wasn’t even a scrap of paper tucked amongst the blooms.

She ran a hand through her hair, tugging at the strands. This was unlike anything she’d experienced. The only flowers she got were from her mother on birthdays. This was… unexpected. She checked her phone for missed calls, for texts, for anything that might shed some light. Nothing.

The scent, once pleasant, now felt oppressive. She grabbed the vase and carried it to the window, the bright sunlight no help in unraveling the mystery. A sudden chill swept over her, a strange premonition. Were these a joke? Or something else entirely?
