The tulips were a riot of color, a vibrant burst of spring. Amelia was immediately suspicious. She hadn't received flowers in years. Who would do this?

She walked around the house, examining the rooms. Were the flowers an invitation? An apology? A bribe? She felt a tightening in her chest. She had a strange feeling.

She looked for a hint – a stray ribbon, a unique stem, anything. Nothing. She spent the rest of the day in a haze of suspicion, all of her usual routines disrupted. The flowers mocked her, their cheerful colors betraying an underlying unknown.
