Gemotions

The shovel clattered against something hard. Sarah, sweating in the afternoon sun, felt a flicker of puzzlement. She'd been gardening, preparing for spring. The object she uncovered was a wooden box, bound with rusty metal straps. What was this doing here?

She carefully pried open the lid. Inside, amongst other items, was a collection of carefully selected items. A pressed flower, a worn teddy bear, a collection of marbles. Memories…or something like them… danced at the edge of her mind.

She picked up the flower, its petals brittle with age. She felt no sense of recognition, no feeling of connection, but the object’s beauty still had the power to make her think. A deep, unsettling question formed in her thoughts as she touched the flower, and she didn’t know how to respond to it.
